Pastoral Care

Baptisms

Holy Baptism is one of two sacraments in the Lutheran Church where we receive God's acceptance of us into his family. This sacrament involves God's grace as we are baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Since this is a matter of God's grace and not our understanding, we baptize all ages [this includes infants]. Martin Luther's explanation is that water in and of itself is merely water but it is the word and promise of God that makes the waters of our baptism meaningful.

If you would like to schedule a baptism or talk about this important sacrament in more detail, please contact one of the pastors at 313.881.6670. The pastors encourage a pre-baptismal meeting with the parents prior to the actual baptism.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is one of two sacraments in the Lutheran Church. Our Lord Jesus Christ invites us to come to His table to receive the bread and wine in which he is truly present with his body and blood. We receive the gifts he offers: new life, forgiveness of sin, and the gift of eternal life. All are welcome to the table of the Lord, since it is His invitation. We celebrate open communion at St. Paul. You do not have to be a member of this parish to participate in the Lord's Supper.

Holy Communion is offered every Sunday at one of our two services [Fall through Spring] 9 AM & 11:15 AM. The first and third Sundays Holy Communion is offered at the 9 AM service, and Holy Communion is offered at the 11:15 AM service on the second and third Sundays of the month. Holy Communion is also offered at both services when we are celebrating a special Holy Day. During the summer, Holy Communion is offered at our 10 AM service. White grape juice is available for those who prefer this instead of wine.

The Pastors and Communion Assistants are available and willing to bring Holy Communion to those who are homebound or residing in a nursing home or assisted-living facility. Communion Ministers are trained and commissioned to serve in this important ministry. If you would like to become a Communion Minister, please talk with one of the pastors.

Funerals

If you are experiencing the loss of a loved one, the pastors of St. Paul are willing to offer pastoral care. Our church is also available for memorial services of Christian burial. Please contact one of our pastors to discuss your needs.

Funeral luncheons at St. Paul need to be arranged with a caterer if they are to be scheduled for our facility. This will be handled with our funeral luncheon coordinator. Arrangements to be made with the pastors will be discussed with the family at the time of the request for services.

Weddings

Our church is available for this joyous event in your life. Our pastors do require three pre-marital counseling sessions prior to the wedding. For more information regarding costs, please consult our Wedding Information flier.
